The IEC/TR 60825-5 document has been long expected by the industry, the testing organizations and consultants. Unlike other frequently applied standards, such as IEC60950, IEC335-1 and IEC60065 where compliance is expected to be verified in the order of the paragraphs, the IEC60825-1 standard does not have a structure which easily permits to utilize the standard in this manner. The release of amendment A2 to IEC60825-1 necessitated the upgrade of this document to incorporate the necessary changes.
Although the review was a maintenance item to an existing document and was expected not to be too exhaustive, a lot of work was done to avoid possible ambiguities, misinterpretations or deviations from the text and the spirit of the main standard. Thanks to all these who sent then comments a final version was prepared and circulated in the summer of 2002. A summary of the changes is presented as well as a review of some critical points that were addressed. A comparison of the Manufacturer’s Checklist to IEC60825-1 test reports used in the CB scheme is also made.
In context of the need to develop the Manufacturer’s Checklist, a proposal is made to change the composition of the IEC60825-1 and other documents in IEC60825 series so that the users have the benefit of using them consistently with other international standards.
