Since the femtosecond laser has been proved to be a very precise machining tool for nearly all kinds of materials, for metals as well as dielectrics and organic materials, many new exciting applications have come up. One of these promising applications is the laser drilling of injection nozzles, where the use of ultrashort pulses results in great improvements of the hole quality and the process repeatability compared to conventional laser drilling. Recent advances in short pulse laser drilling using different drilling techniques will be discussed in this paper.
