This paper deals with the applicability of carbon dioxide laser beams to the thermal treatment of a paperboard cutting die. Appropriate laser processing conditions of the counter plate, which was a thin sheet of the high carbon tool steel, were investigated experimentally for the width/depth of penetration, the primary and secondary hardening, warpage and surface profile.
