To liquidate the consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe the traditional approaches are not always acceptable. The great problem is to find the way of dismantling the remnants of the atomic reactor explosion inside the object “Shelter” under the very complicated conditions - high radioactivity, difficult access, chaotic disposal, the variety of limitations on the acceptable technological means, etc. The traditional technologies such as mechanical cutting, water jet cutting, local explosion, and others are not suitable because they are usually contact methods and as such need quite heavy and rather bulky equipment. That is why the ideal solution may be the use of laser beam in conjunction with robot.
