This paper presents two optical devices which make it possible to shape CO2 laser beams for surface heat treatment applications.
The first, based on the use of a deformable mirror, makes it possible to achieve a homogeneous treatment of a surface. After describing its basic principles, examples of the application to a XC42 steel are given with different settings of the optical device. To facilitate implementation in various industrial environments, a second optical device based on a segmented mirror technology has been developed. After describing its basic principles, some examples of the focusing and application to a 45NCD16 steel are showed.
