The original purpose of this experiment was to devise a method for cold fusion, but my physics teacher wasn’t very optimistic. He strongly urged me to try a different topic, so I decided to work with HOEs. After learning what a HOE was (a recording of microscopic interference patterns that acts as a diffraction grating), I set off to make one with the vague notion that perhaps it could be used as a learning (blech!) tool.
