Several developments in combustion diagnostics with tunable excimer lasers are reported. Two-wavelength operation of a tunable KrF laser was realized and is promising for temperature measurements or multi-species detection with only one laser. Simultaneous imaging of OH and O2 was achieved with this laser. Two-dimensional saturation spectroscopy of OH was demonstrated using a XeCl laser. From the ratio of images in the linear and saturated regime, relative effective lifetimes in two dimensions were derived. First results are reported for two-dimensional visualization of combustion in a real Diesel engine. Fuel jets were observed by Mie scattering and laser induced fluorescence (LIF). Flame propagation was observed using LIF of unburnt Diesel vapor.
