A new compact laser distance sensor using the method of optical radar has been developed. The precise measurement of the absolute distance to an object with a retroreflective tape on its surface. An improvement of the practical features has been achieved, such as a range of measurement greater than 7m with an accuracy of 5×10−3F.S. throughtout the range, and a response time as short as 20msec.
