Full penetration welds were fabricated with numerous power and speed combinations for five section thicknesses. The effect of power and thickness on heat input was studied. The data was correlated to weld profiles. The occurence of massive drop-through and slumping when thicker sections were welded was observed and discussed. The applicability of the results to manufacturing was discussed.
