This paper discusses washing and handling combinations, fit-up, and joint design in high power/high production carbon dioxide laser welding. If a bad washing and handling combination is picked, one runs the risk of up to 30% leakers if a leakproof joint is desired. Parameters used for fit-up in high volume production is discussed. Finally, joint design discusses the entry side of the beam for lap welds, spatter problems, and joint design for stampings.
