The application of pulsed Nd:YAG laser selected welding in prosthetic dentistry has been evaluated. Metallographic investigations of laser welded precious and nonprecious dental alloy show significant advantages in comparison to other joining techniques commonly used in dentistry. Additionally a specially designed software for a commercially available microcomputer offers the dental technician many possibilities of overcoming problems found with more conventional methods of joining techniques such as soldering, which may give insufficient results or may not be applicable.
