Preparation of fluoride glasses containing large concentrations of transition metal ions and rare earth ions Available to Purchase

Preparation and characterization of new heavy metal fluoride glasses based on the composition BaF₂MnF₂-ThF₄ (BMT) are discussed. Modification of the base composition are necessary to improve the glass quality. Fluorides of the elements Na, Al or Yb are added to stabilize the base glass and obtain thick samples. Rare earth ions Tb, Dy, Ho or transition metal ions Fe, Ni, Co are incorporated in the TBM Composition to study the effect of these fluorides on the magnetic susceptibility of the base glass. Some of the compositions prepared in the course of this work are shown in table 1.
