An optical technique based on laser induced fluorescent emission has been developed for time-resolved measurements of liquid film thickness. Motivation for this work was the problem of accurately determining film behavior on the tip of airblast atomizers used in gas turbine engines. Theory, system design, and experimental data are presented.
