For the production of folding cartons, usually a wooden die is required, into which the geometrical development of the cartons is cut by a jigsaw or a laser system. Steel rules are manually inserted afterwards, and then the completed die is put into special cutting and creasing presses for folding box manufacturing. The request for higher processing speeds of automatic packing machines strongly stimulate the introduction of the CO2 laser into the field of diemaking because the manually operated jigsaw could be replaced by an automatic process giving reproducable results from station to station on the die.
