Nearly twenty years after the creation of the Laser MicroJet, SYNOVA still strives to explore the intricacies of the technology to enable new applications. In this paper, the adapting of UV lasers to the water-jet light guide is investigated. Most notably the influence and significance of energy distribution in the water-jet is addressed and the resulting knowledge is used to process dissimilar materials in a single process, with controlled thermal and physical damage resulting in a high cutting quality.
