This paper presents and discusses important aspects that help saving energy during industrial production with high power continuous wave solid state lasers, i.e., disk- and diode lasers. Distinguishing between productive times (laser beam on) and idle times (laser beam off) aspects covered in this paper are wall-plug-efficiency, active power factor correction, intelligent energy saving modes and smart cooling concepts. Besides these aspects that are related to the laser as a production tool, further aspects will be addressed, i.e., light weight design and special applications that are possible only with lasers thus further reducing energy consumption and hence saving money.
