In the last few years laser scribing has become an important process in the manufacture of solar cells. Selective ablation of surface layers requires good control of the laser and a beam having flat intensity. In this paper we describe a method for generating square profiles based on the availability of new novel fibers. In one such application, a 300×300µm square beam having a flat intensity profile is generated using a high power 50W green laser. The paper describes the method for generating such a beam and the possibility for future requirements of even smaller profiles. Experimental results are presented.
