Rene 195 is a nickel-based superalloy that was used as the advanced tip material of the high-pressure turbine blades of aircraft engines because of its excellent oxidation resistance. However, due to poor weldability of this material, it is very difficult to acquire crack free Rene 195 tip through laser powder deposition. In this paper, Laser Net Shape Manufacturing (LNSM) has been applied for Rene 195 deposition. The key processing parameters were correlated with solidification microstructure and cracking susceptibility was investigated. In order to improve process robustness, a vision based closed-loop control system for laser deposition has been developed and integrated into the LNSM system, which could achieve real-time monitoring and control of the weld pool and temperature to ensure robust process and expected microstructure.
