This paper reports the results of laser micromachining of biomedical materials. Laser micromachining of grooves and holes were studied using diode pumped Nd:YVO4 picosecond laser at UV-wavelength. Topography, surface roughness, microstructure and quality of the samples were studied by optical microscope, confocal laser microscope and scanning electron microscope. This work demonstrated that UV-laser micromachining is a well-suited technique for biomedical materials, such as biodegradable polymers and bioactive glass.
