The field of laser applications is so broad that a multitude of laser architectures is needed to satisfy it. This multitude of architectures, however, may be powered by comparatively few optical “engines” designed specifically to allow the laser designer the greatest freedom and flexibility in tailoring his design to reliably meet each application’s unique set of specifications. We present a family of such diode pumped laser amplifier modules and their principal characteristics. In addition, we present performance-predicting design methodologies for the optical engineer and give examples of applications to which these open architecture solutions have been applied from ordinance disposal to diamond cutting.
