The present study evaluates the applicability of the laser welding process to joining thermoplastic matrix composites (TPC), consisting of polypropylene or polyamide matrix reinforced with 40% of continuous glass fibbers, and to develop recommendations regarding an optimization of the process.
This paper presents first results of investigation of the factors affecting the weld seam formation and quality, including configuration of the experimental set up and process parameters, such as laser power, welding speed, and clamping pressure.
