This article presents the application of dynamic fuzzy model identification to the laser cladding process. Two input-output models are introduced and identified. The first model is capable of estimating the clad height in real-time based on the laser energy, laser pulse width, laser frequency and travel speed, and the second model uses combined parameters. The models are derived using fuzzy c-mean clustering approach based on the designed excitation signals for each model. The developed model was evaluated on a real laser cladding system. The results are compared with the experiments and they show promising agreement on extracting the process dynamic behavior.
