Geometry accuracy in high-resolution laser cutting is limited by the formation of striation in laser cutting. It is therefore important to understand the characteristics of the striation so that the cutting process can be optimised. In this study, control volume technique is applied to predict the characteristics of striation along the cut edge. Relationship between striation angle, the length of the first and second distributions and the laser parameters are established. In the model, the molten material at the cutting front is characteristics as the control volume. Temperature, melt film velocity and its thickness are predicted in the model.
