This paper presents a quality measurement system for laser-GMA hybrid welding of zinc coated steel using a plasma signal as well as a current vs. time signal. This leads to the design of a closed-loop process control system which can increase the feed rate for a stable process. Some properties of hybrid welded tubes for hydroforming applications will be described.
