Light emission in blue, green and red wavelength from plume, keyhole opening and finger part was characterized with time resolution in CW-CO2 laser welding of 20kW. Light scattering by condensed particles around the plume becomes significant at wavelength shorter than 400nm especially in partial penetration welding. In full penetration welding, the light scattering becomes less significant since vapor ejects also from rear side.
