40 Years of Colloidal Nanocrystals in JCP
It was 40 years ago that the report of quantum confinement in colloidal nanocrystals first appeared in the Journal of Chemical Physics, authored by Rossetti, Nakahara, and Brus [J. Chem. Phys. 79, 1086 (1983)]. From an initial intellectual curiosity to modern day commercial applications, colloidal nanoscience has grown into a field with tremendous richness and breath across numerous disciplines. This special issue commemorates this anniversary and highlights the advances in theory, experiment as well as the broader impacts of this dynamic field that can be traced back to fundamental chemical and physical studies of quantum size effects in colloidal nanoparticles.
