Physics of Dense Suspensions
Concentrated or "dense" suspensions of particles in viscous liquids are found in many materials, including ceramic and cement precursors, and naturally in muds. Because of their rich rheology even with simple components, they play an important role in studies of complex fluid flow and flow cessation. This volume is dedicated to the physics of dense suspensions, focusing on the underlying basis for their rheological properties. The phenomena of interest include, but are not limited to, strong thickening, dilatancy, jamming and yielding; relationship of particle surface interactions to the statistical physics and bulk flow; shear and vorticity banding.
