Special Issue on Advancing Methods for Analyzing Dialect Variation

The 12 papers in this special issue present novel applications to the study of dialect variation of emerging articulatory methods and a range of computational and statistical techniques. Together, they explore variation in vowels and consonants in a range of human languages as well as in humpback whale songs. The papers also present a range of advances to our methodological toolkit for analyzing dialect variation and demonstrate the value of combining methods from acoustics, articulation, and perception to strengthen our interpretation of the variation we observe in each domain individually.
