Optical Micromanipulation of Quantum Systems
Even though their concept dates from ancient Greeks, we have only been able to see, and manipulate, individual atoms since the last decades. That was enabled by the introduction of optical manipulation and the question nowadays is how further developments in this research area can be achieved. What is the best configuration of optical potentials for further in-depth studies of atomic and molecular systems? How may we use sculptured light for novel studies of quantum systems? How can we develop new ways of producing single photon sources? For this special issue of AVS Quantum Science, organized by Halina Rubinsztein-Dunlop and Philippe Bouyer, we invite review articles on optical manipulation of quantum systems, single photon sources, quantum atom optics, quantum opto-mechanics, and other closely related field.
