Emerging Materials for Spin-Charge Interconversion
Spin-charge interconversion, which enables the generation, manipulation and detection of spin currents in materials with strong spin-orbit interaction, is crucial for spintronics. As new materials and interfaces with strong spin-orbit interaction continue to be explored, the material systems for spin-charge interconversion have expanded from elemental heavy metals to, for example, topological insulators, which show unprecedented spin-charge conversion efficiency. This Special Topic aims to highlight the recent advances in emerging materials discovery and design with potential for spin-charge interconversion, including new-materials prediction, synthesis, characterization of spin-charge interconversion, and new spin-orbit devices that utilize the unique properties of these materials.
