2D Materials Chemistry
2D materials have been revolutionizing the science and technology of modern society in an unprecedented way. Their materials chemistry is of vital importance since it covers original scientific aspects concerning molecular design, synthesis, fabrication, patterning and chemical functionalization. More importantly, materials chemistry offers an irreplaceable way to manipulate physical properties and associated applications of 2D materials in microscopic, mesoscopic and macroscopic scales.
The field continues to grow in a very rapid pace, which brings many new exciting discoveries almost every day. For example, the synthesis of graphdiyne has expanded the bonding types in 2D carbon materials from sp2-sp2 to sp-sp2, while the renaissance of 2D perovskites has excited a new materials hotspot worldwide. In addition, large-scale synthesis of 2D materials with controlled structure and high quality has yet to be realized for commercialization and industrialization, which deserve more research focus.
To attract broad attention on the materials chemistry of 2D materials, we organize this special topic to provide an insightful overview and summarize recent advances in the field.
