Time‐resolved measurements of picosecond vibrational population decay of chemisorbed species (OH, OD, BOH, NH2, and OCH3) on high surface area colloidal silica at room temperature have been performed. The influence of solvents on OH relaxation and the variation in observed relaxation rates are discussed in terms of the vibrational level structure and surface coordination of each adsorbate.
