Superalloy technology has an important effect on the composition control, cleanliness, structure, and consequently on the properties of superalloys. The Chinese metallurgists have been thinking highly of superalloy technology, especially the superalloy melting technology. A lot of research work on the electroslag metallurgy (ESR, ESC, and ESM), including engineering and minor element control of superalloys, has been done in China since the early 1960s. Some of the results are presented in this review paper.
