Since the time of Pythagoras, if not before, demonstration experiments have been used by teachers to illustrate acoustic phenomena and important acoustics principles, and to arouse curiosity about the science of acoustics. Sources for ideas about acoustics demonstrations will be discussed, and as many demonstrations as time permits from classic books by Rayleigh, Taylor, Sutton, Meiners, Freier and Anderson, Hilton, Ehrlich, Carpenter and Minnix, the Exploratorium staff, and others will be illustrated.
