The computer simulation technique for modeling acoustic fields, as developed over the last twenty years by numerous researchers (Allred and Newhouse, Schroeder, Haviland and Thanedar), has been modified to consider phase relationships between the numerous direct and reflected ray tubes. After verification using free‐field and steady‐state conditions, the model was applied to a theoretical reverberant enclosure. Simulated decay curves agreed well with both Eyring's equation for average decay rate and Maa's theoretical calculation [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 18, 134–139 (1946)] for rms percentage fluctuation during decay.
