Shipping distributions serve as primary inputs to ambient noise models. Past work [Solomon et at., J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 62, S39(A) (1977)] discussed the generation of the tools necessary to calculate the present distributions. Shipping distributions by month, quarter, and annual average have been developed for numerous ship classes. These are world wide and presented in the form of 1° square distributions. The ships are partitioned into the following categories: tankers, VLCCs, ULCCs, general cargo, fishing and others. Numerical distributions produced by the computer codes have been validated by comparison with actual measurements in selected ocean areas. [Work supported by ONR.]
