X‐ray films have been the basis of much of our knowledge of speech production. Unfortunately, as these films age they deteriorate and they may be lost as a research resource. In this paper a database of x‐ray films is described. A set of 25, high‐quality x‐ray films have been transferred to videodisk. The 1‐h videodisk contains films provided by C. Rochette (Université Laval) and K. Stevens and J. Perkell (M.I.T.). The subjects were native speakers of Canadian English or French. The images were transferred to video frame‐by‐frame and the accompanying audio recordings have been synchronized with the images. The videodisk is being distributed to the speech research community.
