Theoretical curves are presented for attenuation of surface‐generated noise versus frequency in the range of 15–50 kHz, and depth in the range of 200 m–5 km. These curves are used to predict surface‐generated contribution to deep‐ocean high‐frequency acoustic background. The strongest surface‐generated sound at frequencies above 40 kHz should be reduced to thermal noise level at 4‐km depth.
