The hypothesis that the Preyer‐reflex threshold is related to the absolute intensive threshold is supported by data on the two kinds of thresholds from five white rats. The threshold audiograms are similar (the Preyer about 60 dB less sensitive) and they exhibit roughly the same amount of temporary, threshold shift to acoustic stimulation and the same recovery slope. One animal showed a “bounce” in recovery for both thresholds, and one showed hypersensitivity of the reflex after stimulation.
