Robert T. Beyer1920–2008As this issue goes to press, we must report with sadness the death on Wednesday, 20 August, of Robert T. Beyer, whose distinguished career included extensive leadership and service to the Acoustical Society of America. He was President of the Society in 1968–1969, received the Gold Medal in 1984, and the Distinguished Service Citation in 1989. For two decades, 1974–1994, he served as Treasurer of the Society. After R. Bruce Lindsay's death in 1985, Beyer served in addition as the Editor-in-Chief ad interim, until Daniel Martin was selected as Lindsay's successor. Beyer's funeral in Providence on Saturday, 23 August, was attended by many friends and colleagues, including four former students, all of whom are now Fellows of this Society.
