A combination of a tunable focusing x‐ray monochromator and a two‐axis diffractometer designed for EXAFS and x‐ray anomalous scattering experiments using a high‐power rotating anode x‐ray generator is described. The monochromator provides photon fluxes of 108–109 photons/s with the characteristic Kα and Lα emission lines of the x‐ray target. An estimate of the relative magnitude of the difference anomalous scattering signal is given to determine the useful range of sample composition. Diffraction spectra of an aqueous 10‐molal ZnCl2 solution at different photon energies (CuKα1, AuLα2, WLβ1, and AuLα1), the derived total and difference structure factors, and the corresponding radial distribution functions are shown as an example. The analysis of total and difference structure factors confirms a tetrahedral coordination of the zinc atoms in the solution.
