The 31st Gallery of Fluid Motion (GFM) was held at the American Physical Society (APS) Division of Fluid Dynamics (DFD) Annual meeting in Pittsburgh, PA on November 24-26, 2013. The Gallery of Fluid Motion is divided into two categories (video and poster), and this year accepted 68 videos and 60 posters of high quality from all over the world (Fig. 1(a)). The topic areas of the entries ranged across bio-fluid mechanics, micro/nano fluid mechanics, interfacial flows, drops/bubbles, particulate/multiphase/granular flows, turbulent flows, compressible flows and more (Fig. 1(b)). All the contributed videos and posters were displayed in Exhibit Hall A of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center during the meeting.
Based on artistic value, scientific content, and originality, two panels of eminent scholars (5 judges for video and 7 judges for poster) evaluated the accepted entries and finally selected 12 winners (6 in each category). The top three winners...
