A formula for the relative viscosity of a dilute suspension of uniform spherical particles for the case of Poiseuille flow is deduced by studying the motion of a sphere suspended in a parabolic field in a cylindrical tube, and summing the individual additional pressure drops (caused by the presence of the sphere) for a uniform suspension of particles. The mathematical form of higher approximations is also discussed.
