In this paper we construct a set of nonlinear coupled partial differential equations governing the evolution of plasma fluctuations as they occur in the ionospheric auroral F region. The nonlinear system of equations is shown to support a set of stationary vortexlike solutions. It is also shown that given stationary solutions, one is able to construct time-dependent solutions using an instanton ansatz.
