Single crystals of SnCl2xH2O have been grown, with x = 1.5 and x = 2. The 35Cl NQR signals were observed in single crystals with x = 1.5. These crystals did not exhibit the order–disorder phase transition at 218 K which is observed in single crystals with x = 2. The angular dependence of proton NMR helped us to estimate the positions of water molecules in SnCl2⋅1.5H2O. The orientations of Sn–Cl bonds in SnCl2⋅1.5H2O were determined from the Zeeman perturbed 35Cl NQR spectra. There is good agreement between the conclusions obtained from the analysis of chlorine NQR data and x‐ray diffraction data.
