Polarized fluorescence of doped nematic liquid crystals is observed in the nematic phase and at the nematic‐isotropic phase transition. We find a large change in the quantum yield of the fluorescence in the nematic and isotropic phases due to different quenching rates. The order parameter cannot be easily calculated from the fluorescence intensities because of these quenching effects.
