We derive semianalytic models of two types of photonic crystal resonators by simplifying the Bloch mode scattering matrix method. Essential to the models are two parameters, which are interpreted to be the phase change upon reflection and the measure of orthogonality between modes of adjacent waveguides. The models can predict the resonance position to better than and the full width at half maximum to within .
