A simple solar cell measurement system is described. The instrument is based on an inexpensive microcomputer with a single bidirectional 8‐bit I/O port, in addition to 4 output bits taken from the joystick port. Currents up to 1.5 A and voltages up to 0.7 V can be measured with this system. The temperature of the cell is also measured. Solar cell parameters like open circuit voltage (Voc), short circuit current (Isc), series resistance (Rs), shunt resistance (Rsh), and filling factor (F.F.) are determined by a high‐level language program that also displays the I‐V curve on the monitor screen and stores the data on disk files.
