A method is presented using the mathcad commercial software for investigating the resolution of an optical or microwave system. The method allows parametric variation of both the sizes of objects being observed and the objective of the system. The integrations required are performed automatically and the results are plotted using one set of instructions typed directly into the mathcad display window. This allows the user to quickly begin studying the effect of varying the dimensions without dwelling on programming issues that would otherwise be encountered. The method demonstrates the power and flexibility of this type of software for many basic problems that may have previously been neglected because they require computational processing to solve.
