The paper describes a flexible method for estimating the impulse response of physical systems. The input and output signals of the system are deconvolved numerically in the time domain by an iteration scheme. The method is based on an optimization strategy that minimizes the least‐squares error between the theoretical model and the observed behavior of the system.
